June 2010 Luncheon, Report from Speakers' Committee Print E-mail

The June 3, 2010 Insurance Commission Candidate Panel luncheon was a huge success. Our goal was to present some of the candidates running for the Office of the Insurance Commissioner of Georgia to our ACA members. We felt a luncheon forum provided an appropriate setting to allow them the opportunity to hear from the candidates directly their positions on varying topics.

Our panel discussion was very productive and informative for all involved. The panelists who attended were:

State Representative — Tom Knox
State Senator — Ralph Hudgens
Health Benefits Consultant — Gerry Purcell
Attorney & GOP Activist — Maria Sheffield
Ex – State Senator, Ex State Representative & Paralegal &mdash Mary Squires

We want to express our sincere appreciation to all panelists for taking time from their busy schedules to attend this luncheon and share their views on the questions posed. The Atlanta Claims Association prepared three questions prior to the event and questions were taken from the audience attendees. Each candidate had an opportunity to answer all of the questions and well as give an opening and closing statement.

The luncheon was well attended and the discussions were lively. Above all we feel our members and guests were given an opportunity to see and hear from some of the candidates that they may not have otherwise heard from. Maybe this forum will assist some in their decision on who will be our next Insurance Commissioner of Georgia.

Important dates to remember are:

Primary election — Tuesday, July 20th
General election — Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010
